Our First Hurricane

Took D out to Corona Park to work on a photography assignment and take some photos (I’ll post mine up shortly, his may be tomorrow if he’s willing to share). We were going to head home then stopped at a playground. He made a friend, played some tag, hide-and-seek, and generally ran around. Then we decided to treat ourselves to some DQ (Dairy Queen). But for DQ, you either have to go to Staten Island or Long Island. Long Island it was. We finished dinner and as we went to the car, it started drizzling. The sun was out and so was a rainbow (sorry, no photo). All the road message boards were showing the hurricane warning. Here’s a photo of one (camera phone picture, phone was mounted, we were in stop and go traffic).

Our first hurricane!

If you’re curious, I run some temperature, humidity, and pressure sensors. You can find the current conditions here: http://www.rsb0.com/dashboard.php (the graphs used to update automagically, but disabled since the 10 year old CPU has gotten pretty pokey). If you’re curious if the airplanes are still flying, I got you covered there too – http://www.rsb0.com/skyaware/ (the antenna is north-west facing so it misses a lot of southern JFK traffic, but has good line of site on LGA)
