New Normal @ the Beach!

D and I have been itching to get out. We opted for Robert Moses State Park. The original thought was to take a look at the Fire Island Lighthouse. I learned the hard way that parking options from the west side requires a bit of a hike. So we went to the beach instead! Once D realized he could run around freely, he opened up and was running just about non-stop.

I did not get any father of the year nominations though. I was looking the other way when a wave took D down. When I spotted him, he was on all 4s and was pretty upset. Another father was about to help him and then looked for me. Whoops. D was fine. He knows how to handle himself in the water and he had his footing. I figured he was upset that he was soaking wet and had a fresh layer of sand. NOPE! He was upset because he lost his white plastic shovel. I tried to reassure him that we’d get another one (just not today). I scanned the horizon for a couple minutes and spotted a white thing. A quick walk over (jogging did me in last time) and I found the shovel and retrieved it. D was excited to see it again and was asking me (I think in disbelief) how I found it.

The beach wasn’t too crowded. We were practically the only ones wearing a mask on the beach. We probably didn’t need it but figure we be safe.
